Day 11 - In Which We Move Back In

I  missed Saturday -- that was cleanup day (with the help of friend Michele!).  Had to wash off all the windows, shelves, molding, etc., which still had wood dust.  Sunday morning I checked out.  The luggage cart was stacked to the brim--suitcase & duffel bag, two folded quilts (cat throws), cat post, litter box (encased in plastic bags), cat heating pad, large hamper filled with books, etc., cat toy tin, duffel bag o' wet and dry food.  Ish.  Got back here around 8:30 and started moving stuff out of the breakfast nook.  Joe arrived at 11:00 or so from the airport and we started right in on moving in all the heavy stuff.  We have all of the heavy furniture back in (except for Joe's unwieldy Ikea Tower of Shelves) and some boxes.  I think we may be mostly moved in by the end of tomorrow.  Gromit woke me up at 2:00, as usual, and now I can't get back to sleep because I'm unpacking in my head.  Gromit is, of course, asleep.

The best news--Fidget has already thrown up a furball, and cleanup was a dream!!

Day 9 - In Which Gromit Redeems Himself and Fidget Gets Sniffly

Won't be writing much today...just more of the same.  Floors still look great.  The shoe molding goes on today, then one more coat of finish and they're done.  I've only left the hotel for about one hour a day for five days.  Today I'm actually venturing out to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy a whole bunch of furniture casters and felt guards, so the furniture doesn't scratch the floors when we put it back.

Last night, my friend Michele from the neighborhood came for a visit.  Fidget, unlike other cats who live in the house, is both friendly and appendage safe.  She was all over Michele.  As the evening went on, I noticed Fidget began getting more sniffly and by the end of the evening, she had snorted on both my shirt and pants.  And she stopped eating.  Interesting.  I sincerely doubt she was allergic to Michele, but Michele both has, and is in a work environment with, dogs.  Could Fidget be allergic to dogs?  Our floor guy said the stain in the living room was urine and it's way too big to be made by a cat.  Could there be residual dog DNA in our house, triggering Fidget's sinus problems?  It will be interesting to see what happens when she's back home.  Joe suggested perhaps Fidget was allergic to Gromit, a theory that makes no sense and was clearly posited in the nefarious hopes of fooling me into making our return to the house a Gromit-less one.

Speaking of, Gromit was better behaved last night.  He didn't start yowling until 2:30.  I got up and carried him around the room like a baby, scratching his head.  I then laid down on the couch instead of the bed.  He hopped up next to me and went to sleep.  He got up a couple hours later and tried to chase Fidget, but I put him in front of the window and he was distracted by a shiny truck.  Another night down, two more to go.
